What I am interested in for art

My name is Beckett Lindsey. This is my second year of art. One thing I am looking forward to is where you draw your face and put all the things you like in the brain of the head. The other wheel class told me that we will do this. One thing I am hoping to do in art class this year is to make clay sculptures. I have never made anything with clay and I am hopeful that we will get to do it sometime during art class. I also hope we will get to use paint. This will help to add different colors to our drawings. In general, I hope that we will get to paint, draw and have a good time while still learning good ways to improve are art.

Why the Eurasian otter is extinct

The Eurasian otter is listed at Near endangered mostly because of human hunting and water pollution. Why would people want to kill them? The answer is what drives everybody to do things. Money. Killing otters and selling the fur can lead to 120 to 140 dollars on average. Kill two of them and you could probably make near three hundred dollars. Another reason why the Eurasian otter is extinct is because of water pollution, also because of humans. Because Eurasian otters need to live in relatively clean areas, the Eurasian otter population is decreasing by a lot. The pollution pressures the otters to move out to find cleaner waters or try to adapt to the dirty water.

Facts about the Eurasian otter

When you think of otters you may think of cute, loving and friendly. That is why it is hard to believe that the Eurasian otter, a subspecies of the otter family is listed as near endangered on the IUCN red list. To solve this we need your help. By reading this, you should have a good understanding of the Eurasian otter, why they are endangered and how we can increase their population.

First of all, the Eurasian otter, (Lutra Lutra) is one of thirteen species of otters. Found in both seawater and freshwater, they are spotted along coastlines of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The Eurasian otter has one of the biggest ranges of spread of mammals in the whole Palaearctic ecozone (in Eurasia and North Africa.) Most otter habitats are along lakes, rivers and coastlines. Usually, they are found in shallow rocky areas with a high buoyancy. Also lots of vegetation. The Eurasian otter lives in both land and water. A lot of times they will come right up to humans but they will never bite. They are very friendly creatures. Like their Mustelid family, which includes badgers, Pine Martens and Weasels, the Eurasian otters’ diet consists of mostly fish but they will also eat frog, water snakes, urchins and small mammals.

How we can save the Eurasian otter

Now you know about the Eurasian otter and why their population is decreasing but here is how we can save them. First of all, we should stop buying otter fur coats or any fur coat made of live animal. Then, people who kill the otters will stop making money and they will stop doing it. A second reason how we can save the Eurasian otter is by not letting pollution go by. Pollution is a big reason why most animals are becoming extinct. One way of helping to stop pollution is to conserve energy. Turn off your lights before you leave somewhere. This leads us to a third and final reason how we can save the Eurasian otter. Try to join an environmental club to stop extinction and pollution. Two good examples of conservation programs are the NRCS and the U.S fish and wildlife service. The NRCS, or the Natural Resources Conservation Service is a group of people in a program to help save plants and animals, the environment. The U.S fish and wildlife service, focuses mainly on fish with other causes of wildlife including otters!

Eurasian Otter

The animal I am researching for my endangered species project is the Eurasian Otter. (Lutra Lutra)  I chose this animal because otters live in shallow areas and can swim in saltwater and in freshwater.
Two things I want to know about my animal is how the Eurasian otter came to be on the ICUN red list of endangered species and how we can prevent this from happening.

In science class we found out about the different boundaries there are, using a mars bar as an example. In this experiment we were able to see all the layers in the earth. I did enjoy this experiment because we got to see different layers of the earth in a fun and tasty way while being able to hear other classmates expressing their opinion on the topic. The first thing we did is break the mars bar apart to label those different parts of the earth. I think that the crust of the earth is the begining chocolate at the top. The mantle is the caramel part of the mars bar, then there is the core, made of nouget. I think a mars bar is not a good representation of the earth because with a mars bar, the caramel liquid is at the top where as in the earth, the liquid is at the core, in the middle of the earth.

Secondly, we observed what happened when the mars bar was pulled apart. When a mars bar is pulled apart, it is a divergent boundary, the direction of the two plate boundaries were opposite. If I was able to see a divergent plate boundary I would think that the tectonic plates would keep moving apart and make space for oceans and rivers.

Third, we observed what happened when the mars bar was pushed together. When a mars bar is pushed together, it is a converging plate boundary. It is a continent to continent plate boundary. A different converging plate boundary is an ocean to continent plate boundary, where the ocean and land meet. These are where most earthquakes happen. If I was able to see this on earth, I think mountains would form as the plates were pushed together.

This is a crack in the Earth, this would result in fault lines appearing, this is how Earthquakes happen.

This is a transform boundary. A transform boundary is when one plate moves up and the other plate moves down.

Overall, this has been a very fun experiment and a very tasty challenge. Although this experiment covered most of it, some questions I still have are What makes tectonic plates move? How do scientists know how hot the core is? How / why did Pangea break apart? I hope I get to learn this in future classes.

Taoism

For the beliefs and religions project, I started by choosing Taoism, the religion of China.

Knowing that all research is a process. I first filled out a big six plan. Thinking about my topic, the information i would need, the sources I could use, and the project I wanted to make. I first collected notes and put them into citelighter. Than, once I got the notes, I did part three of the big six plan by making use of the information. I wrote my script. After that, I needed to choose between doing a garage band video, or a I movie. I chose an I Movie. That meant, I had to get images. I got twelve images, based on Taoist gods, symbols, rituals, and other parts of Taoist life. I went to I movie. I said my whole script into the microphone. The whole thing was two minuts and twenty one seconds long. Next, I put my pictures to fit the sentences of what i said in the microphone.  Finally, to finish it, I put in my bibliography of where i got my research, and than where I got my pictures. When i edited and did part six of the big six. Evaluation,  I shared my video with the class. That is the process of My Taoism I movie.

Ancient Egypt Presentation

When Mr. Callaway first told the groups, my group started thinking of ideas. We wanted to learn about the Ancient egyptian religion. We learned about the big 6 of studying. The first step of the big 6 was task definition. What's the task? our task was to take notes about the ancient egyptian religion. To help us with that, we had cite lighter. With cite lighter, we could organize our notes better.  We had to give each other parts of who will study what. 2nd step. Seeking Strategies. Where can we get resources to study and learn? We decided on the school library, the computer, and the purple social studies books Mr. Callaway has. 3rd step. Location and access. We got to those places and started reading about the religion of Ancient Egypt. 4th step, use of information. we started using the information we absorbed from our brain to make note cards and start writing our speech. 5th step. Synthesis. we started practicing the speech and we said our speech in front of the whole class. Our final step of this project was our evaluation. We looked back at our speeches and evaluated them. Our group went through struggles one times, but we did it. One thing our group decided on changing if we could do this project again, was better time management. We could have made better use of our time, I thought.

A Day in the Life of an Ancient Egyptian

Voki helped me reveal my knowledge of ancient Egypt by letting me put this video together. First I went into voki classroom. When I got to a character, I changed it to look like me so the video would be realistic. I was allowed to change hair color, eyes, shirts, everything. That was fun. When I finished that I tried to record my voice on voki but it did not work. Mr. Callaway had a backup plan though and we went to this app called Awesome Voice Recorder. I recorded my voice and talked about scribes, how they were the writers of Ancient Egypt and were in the higher class of Ancient Egypt. When I finally published my video, I showed my video to the class. That is how I made my voki.
